You have probably read at least one of those articles on the Internet, which teach you how to clean and what products to use for this purpose. There are thousands of them on the web, and I must admit that they are pretty useful. But there isn’t a post which tells you what not to do when cleaning. That is why I’m going to provide you with one.
Here is a list of things which you should never do when cleaning on your own. It was offered to me by a professional cleaner London:
- Don’t ever apply a cleaning detergent or a solution on a carpet stain. Always try it on an inconspicuous area of the flooring first. Otherwise, you risk to discolour and damage the fibres of your rug.
- Never rub a stain, as you might spread it wider. Blot it instead.
- When cleaning a carpet or upholstery discolouration always work on it from the outside-in. Otherwise, you might spread it wider.
- Never mix vinegar and bleach, NEVER! This is very dangerous, as the mixture emits a poisonous gas, which can kill you. It was used as a chemical weapon in World War II.
- Never use a carpet right after you’ve steam cleaned it. Leave it to dry well, first.
- Never use a hair dryer to remove chewing gum from your clothes or furniture. Cover the stain with a newspaper and iron it, instead.
- Never start cleaning from the floor-up of a room. Always do it from the top-down, because dust particles that are being pushed into the air fall on the top of lower surfaces.
Some of the tips on the list of Cleaner London might sound quite simple, but believe me they are important. Follow them, so to ease your house cleaning process and to stay safe.
